The Triton Super High Roller Series London commenced this past Wednesday afternoon in the British capital. In the week to come, the Hilton Hotel is to host several exclusive events, with players having the opportunity to enter the contests with minimum buy-ins of £25,000.
The biggest spectacle the festival has to offer is the Triton Million for Charity event where the buy-in amounts to the record sum of £1.05 million. The record-breaking event starts today and will run for three days. It is expected to produce the largest first-place prize in history.
This record currently belongs to the Big One for One Drop where American poker pro Antonio Esfandiari won $18 million. The Triton Million for Charity is expected to surpass this as the prize for the first-place winner is estimated at £19 million. All participants in the Triton Million for Charity must donate £50,000 from their buy-ins, with the entry fees going toward charitable causes.
The Triton Million for Charity Generated a Million Prize Pool
The record-breaking event plays on ten tables, with as many as 54 players participating in the seat draw. They contributed £54 million to the prize pool and £2.7 million for charitable causes. Paul Phua, one of the co-founders of the prestigious series, stressed the importance of the event’s charitable aspect during the Triton Million seat draw.
Phua also confirmed the charity event could not accommodate all players interested in participating and apologized to the applicants who failed to get a seat.
In this tournament, recreational players compete against other non-pros and vice versa for the first six levels, each level lasting for an hour. When the tournament reaches the six-hour mark, the recreational and professional fields merge.
The prestigious festival kicked off yesterday with a six-handed No Limit Hold’em Turbo. Over 50 players paid the £25,000 buy-in within the first hour only for the chance to win a share of the prize pool that exceeded £1 million. The tournament attracted the interest of 117 players including 44 re-entries. A prize of £690,000 is to be awarded to the winner.
The Triton London No Limit Hold’em Main Event kicks off on August 4th, with a buy-in of £100,000. The festival also features a short deck ante-only event with a £25,000 buy-in. The tournaments utilize the No Limit Hold’em format.
The prestigious festival runs until August 8th when it ends with a £50,000 Short Deck Ante Only event. This year’s Triton Super High Roller Series London has already attracted the attention of some of the most notable poker players in the world.
It has an impressive line-up of British players including the likes of Stephen Chidwick, Charlie Carrel, Sam Trickett, and Ben Heath who earned his first bracelet in this year’s WSOP.
